About this chart
Over the decade the S&P 500 more than tripled. The Hang Seng peaked in 2017, fell to a low in 2023 more than 20% below its 2016 level, then rebounded in 2024–25 to finish only about 10% higher than where it started.
Both lines show year-end closing levels, rebased so that the end of 2016 = 100. The last point is the close on 9 October 2026. Price indices only; dividends are not included.
